The Shtick on Schick®

Schick IntuitionThe Product: The new Schick® Intuition® Plus™ razor for women (or men!) is the newest razor from Schick®!
The Buzz: “Lathers, Shaves & Moisturizes in 1 Easy Step”

To be honest, I first heard about the new Schick® Intuition® Plus™ razor during a commercial break on TV. I love commercials, and the thought of a 1-step razor seemed pretty appealing! The pitch in itself of 1 easy step sounds pretty promising: Just think, no more fumbling with shaving cream in the shower; no more of applying shaving cream, turning around to put down the can, only to realize that the water has washed away all your hard work! I decided that it was worth testing out.

Schick IntuitionThere are four different varieties: Shea Butter, Aloe & Vitamin E, Milk & Honey, and Cucumber Melon. I decided to get the Shea Butter, since I’m currently using St. Ives®’ Oatmeal & Shea Butter moisturizer (but that’s a different review ;D). On to the testing! But how do you rate a razor? I thought of time, cost, and of course, results, as my three staples.

Time: Considering that we are now in the midst of summer, many women are probably trying to keep the leg “furries” at bay, but don’t want to add on an extra 10 minutes in the shower (less if you’re fortunate enough to have a bathtub!). Plus – students are ALWAYS on the go. How would it hold up?
It was quick and easy, and I was pleasantly surprised! A fresh razor is always a fabulous thing – the blades effortlessly sliding over skin, while the hair gets cut down in one go. I hate having to go over the same spot a couple of times due to a dull razor >___<;;.

But blade sharpness aside, I was curious about the “lathering” effect. Did I have to rub it? The instructions say to “Wet the razor to activate Skin Moisturizing Solid™”. How long should I wet the razor for? After running it under the spray for a few seconds, I decided that would suffice and proceeded to shave my leg. It was fantastic! The razor glided smoothly over my legs, and even adapted well to those weird angles like the kneecap, and ankle. I didn’t have any issues – it lathered well, handled angles well, and rinsed well!

Results: Everything always seems good – until you get out of the shower – then you can see if you missed spots, cut little nicks in yourself, etc.
I am impressed, however, no cuts! And the shave was a nice close one! Better still, my legs didn’t feel any different as if I had used the good ol’ shaving cream and standard razor method! I think we can call that a success!

SchickCost: Finally – the $$ issue. Oh to not be a student and have the big bucks pouring in… Wait. That would be taxes, and working the 8am – 5pm grind… Okay, I like the student life for now… but is the new razor really practical for the student lifestyle (read ‘budget’!)?

Well I got my razor at Shopper’s Drug Mart close to the university for about $11 (they were on sale – regular price is about $13). In that package you get the razor handle with 1 head attachment, 1 shower wall mount, and 1 replacement head. The replacement packages come in sets of 3 and 6, as far as I could see and were about $14 (about $12 on sale) and $21 each, respectively.

However, the real test is the duration of 1 head attachment. Considering that I have only just purchased and started using the razor, the real test will be to see how many “shaves” it can do before needing to be replaced. The moisturizing strip doesn’t seem to have gone down too much after 1 use, but the true test is time. I’ll likely have to do an update when I run out after counting the number of uses, but until then – the new razor seems to live up to its shorter time but equal effectiveness claims! That’s smooth!
