Obama, the new face of America

Posted By: modifierwong

Change.

That's the campaign that Barack Obama was campaigning for, and change is what the americans got. The change in presidency brought thoughts around the world for the US to end its 'my stick is bigger than your stick' mantra so well known in Iraq. Will he do exactly that? That's tough to say. But will he bring the USA off from its knees and rally americans together to bring back faith in the white house? I can't even say a definite 'yes' on the one. But what I do know is that he's already done what President Bush so thoroughly neglegted, given the American people confidence and hope.

The Chemistry of Spam

Have you ever wondered what online chemistry assignments do to you? Well, they make you frustrated to the point of pulling your hair, they make stay up late needlessly, and most of all, they can change the way you look at countdown timers. Have you ever felt so tense seeing your count timer go from 1/10 to 9/10? Well, in this case, you get 10 tries to get the answer right. If you don't, it's a zero...and that aint good especially when they're free marks to give. But otherwise, I've been doing alright with the online assignments thanks in part to my writing antics.

You see, under every question page, there's a discussion board for you to post questions about the questions and for fellow students to help out. But I on the other hand, have used these for something slightly different...If you don't understand what I'm saying...don't worry, you don't have to. It just makes me crack up everytime I think about the poor chap who reads this. They'll be sitting there with their eyes crossed thinking, is this really english? lol Enjoy! Read More »

Calculating Calculus

Oh man...do I have something to write today! Now let me set the mood here, it was a rather gloomy day with extremely heavy rain in the morning. Algebra (my first class) was informative, but rather boring. so we all walked into Calculus expecting another lesson about stuff we already knew, only learning it in a more complicated way.  But this Calculus class was unlike any other... Hongry? Try Sun Hong

Sun HongIf you study at the University of Windsor, and are hongry, look no further than Sun Hong, just a few steps away from the University main campus. This place has been here for YEARS, and the quality and flavour of the food shows. There’s Dynasty across the street, but their chinese BBQ can’t compare to Sun Hong’s.

There’s a nice variety of food, and the menu is in Chinese and English. The most striking thing you’ll notice before you walk in is the huge glass window with rows of BBQ meat. There’s roast duck (Hong Kong style), Char Siew (BBQ pork), cuttlefish, chinese sausage, and my personal favourite, roast pig. Everything is made fresh every day and the place only opens at 11:30. The prices are cheap, and most lunches will only run you about $7.

Compared to Harvey’s (which is just down the street), you get a lot more food for your money. The service is nice and fast, and the only caution is that they take cash only. My personal favourite dish is the “Char Siew, Siew Yoak fan”, which is BBQ pork and roast pig rice. So if you’re hongry, and need a quick bite, look no further!

The love of Tim Hortons

the-love-of-tim-hortons

So I've got 10 minutes before I head to class/tutorial.

Today is an exception because I actually woke up and made it on time to my 8:30 class this morning! I think it is partly due to the fact that my mom just came back from China and needed the car to go out today, and maybe also the fact that guilt had finally washed over me. I hadn't been to this class in a month. Um...Maybe I shouldn't tell you that.

Anyways, during my little break, I decided to go grab a bagel at the student's life-support center, Tim Horton's. It was my usual picking, an everything bagel with butter. I can never get tired of it. But that's the thing. Sometimes when I eat bagels everyday, it makes me sick of it to the point where I never want to step into a Tim hortons again. But then after a few days of not eating it, I start craving it like I haven't eaten in days. I tell you, they've spiked those bagels... Read More »

Laptop Bonanza

laptop-bonanza

The class of LaptopsI settled in to my seat and did as I'm used to and pulled out my laptop from my bag. Instinctively, I grabbed my power cord and tried to plug in, but no luck. Plugs were full. I then looked up into the sea of Laptops.

As I'm writing this, I'm sitting in my friend's Oceanography class. Presented with such a vast array of LCD's and multicolored plastic, I decided to do a little investigating about what people are actually doing on their laptops. It was actually kind of shocking because this class was packed with students actually attending class. Not only that but there's dozens of laptops. Read More »

Worse than Chicken Scratch?

worse-than-chicken-scratch

chicken scratchHave you ever looked at your doctors note and wondered, 'is this even english?' Well, I can tell you that doctors are not the only people who suffer from C.S.S, Chicken Scratch Syndrome.

Last year, I had a professor who spoke with a very thick accent that it came out as a low rumbling noise. I tried to pay attention but it reminded me of my flights on airplanes, and you know what passengers do on airplanes: sleep. It was even worse when he wrote on the board because it was like seeing an alien come to earth and scribble something in the dirt that we were supposed to understand. I dubbed it, 'Writing with an accent.' Read More »

HP w2408 LCD Monitor

hp-w2408-lcd-monitor

24 Inches can mean a lot of things. It could be a 24" large pizza, it could be a set of 24" rims, or it could be 24" of snow. All of which wouldn't sound too awkward to talk about. I however, will be talking about my newest toy, a 24" Widscreen LCD monitor.

Ever since stumbling across a black Friday deal for a 24" Samsung LCD monitor, I had been on the lookout for something similar. My original plan was actually to go to the USA on Thursday, buy the monitor at full price then go back on Black Friday to claim back the full sale price difference. This plan would ensure that I would get myself a super deal for only $349.99.

Upon coming closer to the actual date, things didn't quite work out. I had a midterm on Friday morning (ensuring that I would not be able to line up in the wee hours of the morning) and the original price was $499.99 which required a mail-in rebate. A US mailing address with my name was nonexistent, and thus my mind was made up. I would go to the store on Black Friday in the afternoon and if they happen to have one of the monitors in stock, I would buy it. If not, then oh well. Come Black Friday...no monitor. Read More »
